On May 7, 2020, in the early months of the COVID-19 pandemic, Nyisha Green-Washington and Kelsey Daniels founded the Black Womxn Deserve Fund under March for Black Womxn San Diego (M4BWSD). This was San Diego County’s first mutual aid initiative rooted in and centering Black Womxn, femmes, and queer folks living at the grassroots. We thank and we love you Ny and Kels!
Born out of urgent need and deep love, this fund emerged as a lifeline for those too often left behind. It provides emergency financial support to Black Womxn in crisis, because when systems fail, we show up for each other.
This work stands in the tradition of our ancestors, who built networks of support like the Underground Railroad, Montgomery Bus Boycotts, Black Mamas' Bail Fund, Drag Mothers, Play Aunties, and Susu to name a few, out of necessity, resilience, and radical love. We continue that legacy today, knowing our struggles are interconnected, and our liberation is, too.
For nearly five years, Imani Marshall-Moreno stewarded this work with care, holding and redistributing 100% of donations through her personal Venmo, PayPal, and CashApp accounts. We thank you and we love you, Imani!
As of August 1, 2025, we’ve been able to bring this work home, Black Womxn Deserve Mutual Aid is now officially housed under M4BWSD’s organizational Venmo and PayPal, with CashApp coming soon.
Today, we call on you to honor this legacy and help sustain this work. Your donation directly supports Black Womxn and femmes in real time and is tax deductible
